Educating the next generation …

Although Michigan's economic recovery has been great, we are still failing to give students the education they deserve. That’s our shame and our responsibility. We must fix this by placing all issues on the table and addressing them as dauntless, innovative leaders. This includes creating sustainable funding sources, instituting understandable metrics to measure success, supporting choice and embedding accountability system-wide. Critically, we must ensure educators are at the table as we create solutions. Let’s be determined not just to improve Michigan public education, but to make it the best in the nation. We can do this.

Repairing Michigan Roads…

When hard-working families have budgets crippled by pothole-induced car repairs, when business developers must seek circuitous routes bypassing bad roads in order to attract business, when road crews and commissions are blamed for conditions caused by lack of resources (not talent), and when convoluted funding mechanisms don’t ensure sustainable investment and are difficult to understand, it’s time for change. This legislature has made significant improvements to road funding, but we need to do more. This must be a priority with the upcoming legislature. It certainly will be for me.

Protecting the Unborn…

As an Orthodox Christian, I believe life is sacred. It is not a matter of choice, nor is it accidental; it is God-given. It has value, even if it can't yet make a decision or express emotion. It is beautiful, whatever it looks like. And it is love--the love of God--no matter how it's conceived. How can we presume to choose an end to such a thing? These are among the reasons I am pro-life and will support life-affirming policies as a legislator.

Keeping taxes low and reducing Auto Insurance rates…

I want to help get money back in the wallet of hard-working taxpayers when I can. This can be done by keeping the government accountable, supporting fiscally conservative polices, opposing needless tax hikes, and fighting for auto no-fault insurance reform. Michigan families deserve to see their tax dollars spent wisely and on services that matter, like education, roads and public safety.

Quality jobs for Michigan workers…

The Michigan Comeback has gained national attention. We are leading the country in job creation thanks to legislators and a governor who supported pro-job and pro-business policies. This is not just a business issue; it's a human issue. Every able-bodied person should know the pride and self-respect of earning their way, creating their success, building comfortable lives for themselves and their families, and giving back to their communities. I will work to ensure that Michigan's business climate is vibrant and conducive to job creation.

Supporting the West Michigan’s Housing Market…

I can’t count the number of national lists that include the Greater Grand Rapids area as a great place to live and work. It’s no secret to those of us who’ve lived here all our lives. Now that others are discovering it, we have a shortage of homes. We need to fix that. We need a business and tax climate that attracts developers. We need skilled labor. And we need to eliminate unnecessary regulations that add cost to homes, making them unaffordable to too many. In Lansing, I will do just that, so that when we put out the welcome mat to new families, it’s backed by the possibility of home ownership.
