GRAND RAPIDS, MICH., – Today, the Lynn Afendoulis campaign released an email exchange between Peter Meijer and Alex McCoy, the Political Director for Common Defense from December 2016. This email exchange shows that Meijer was aware of and a supporter of the objectives of Common Defense. This runs contrary to Meijer’s description of his donation throughout the campaign.

In July 2019, the day he announced his campaign Meijer told the Detroit News that “They lied to me. I never gave them another penny after the agenda became clear.”

In September 2019, Meijer stated on Twitter he donated to Common Defense because he thought they “stand up for vets”. https://twitter.com/VoteMeijer/status/1175110229450792961

In January of 2020, Meijer told Roll Call, “Meijer says he sent a check at the behest of a fellow veteran without fully vetting the group, but to those who are pushing that line of attack, he asks, “What else you got?”

Alex McCoy is willing to talk about his previous relationship with Meijer and his support for Common Defense. Meijer and Alex knew each other during their time at Columbia, and their last conversation was about their mutual regard for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

If interested in speaking with Alex, please inquire about his email, and it will be provided.

The voters of the 3rd District deserve to know the truth from Peter Meijer.

Background:
